For the first time, The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Posse is honoring not one, but two of its own as “Posse Member of the Year.”

Gene Browder and Mark Drewery, both residents of the Crestview area, have been selected as co-winners of the annual award for 2004. Each has averaged more than 500 hours of volunteer time per year for the past six years. Browder and Drewery are both certified as Auxiliary Law Enforcement Officers, and have completed the same training required for full-time law enforcement officers in Florida.

The Sheriff’s Posse is a volunteer organization that provides manpower to serve the citizens of Okaloosa County. Posse members assist Deputies on patrol, escort and transport prisoners, guard crime scenes, provide security at football games and other public events, and perform many other duties.

With an average membership of approximately 50 during the year, the Sheriff’s Posse totaled approximately 13,000 hours of volunteer service in 2004.
