A press conference will be held on Friday, April 22, at 10:00 a.m. at center court of Destin Commons to kick off a litter awareness campaign for Okaloosa and Walton counties.  Various speakers, including Major Mike Coup with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office will discuss the recurring litter problems on Highway 98.  To kick off the litter campaign, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit will be especially alert for litter violators along the Highway 98 corridor in Okaloosa County.  Florida law imposes a $50.00 fine for even small amounts of litter.  The Sheriff’s Office has been working with the City of Destin, Destin Area Chamber of Commerce, Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Emerald Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau, and similar organizations in Walton County to support the litter campaign initiative.
