PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible fraudulent solicitation scheme that targets local businesses. Deputies want to alert business owners to use caution and do your homework when dealing with out-of-town firms claiming to be working on behalf of area schools.

Recently there have been reports of mail and telephone calls soliciting advertising from local companies. The businesses are promised specific ads - or believe they are buying advertising - that will directly benefit a local school. Investigators however say the out-of-state companies retain the proceeds and don’t always follow through with the promised promotions.

Any local business having experienced a si mil ar incident can contact their local law enforcement agency.
