TRAFFIC SAFETY CAMPAIGN RESULTS
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office took part in the national “Click It
or Ticket” campaign from May 19th to June 1st. The annual
campaign involves heightened public awareness and law enforcement activities to
encourage people to buckle up.
The goal is safety. Drivers and passengers who don’t wear their seat
belts are 14 times more likely to die in a traffic crash. In fact, buckling up
is the single most important thing you can do to prevent injury or death when
involved in an accident.
During the Click It or Ticket campaign, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s
Office wrote citations for twenty-four seat belt infractions and one child
restraint seat infraction.
In addition to those violations, deputies also issued 246 citations for
speeding, twenty for reckless/careless driving, and twenty for uninsured
motorists. Traffic stops also resulted in forty-three arrests for driving with a
suspended license, eighteen DUIs, fifteen narcotics charges, one recovered
stolen vehicle, six fugitive warrant arrests and 11 miscellaneous felony
arrests.
