A Mary Esther man faces numerous charges after he fled from Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies trying to make a traffic stop due to his erratic driving, ultimately driving through a yard and taking out a mailbox at a home in Mary Esther.
54-year old Vernon Gamble III was taken into custody September 10th for DUI, fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault on an officer, driving with a suspended license, obstruction of justice, and criminal mischief.
An OCSO Sergeant initiated a traffic stop on Gamble after spotting him violating multiple traffic laws, including seeing him travel on the wrong side of the roadway, in the oncoming lane, on two separate roadways around 9 p.m.
Gamble however didn’t stop for the lights and sirens and attempted to strike a deputy’s marked patrol car with his truck.
He damaged property on Shrewsbury Road after intentionally driving through a yard, hitting a mailbox and other items.
When the pursuit ended, Gamble got out of his vehicle and initially refused commands.
Gamble’s license had been suspended since 2018 out of Alabama for a prior DUI.
