The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a fatal shooting that took place when the US Marshals Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force attempted to take a wanted individual into custody this morning.
A deputy with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was assisting with that operation around 8:30 a.m. when the individual fired at least one shot from within a car in the McDonalds parking lot on Ferdon Boulevard in Crestview. Officers fired shots and the fugitive, wanted on out of state charges for kidnapping, was deceased at the scene.
Per standard protocol the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the FDLE investigation takes place.
Next of kin notification has not been made at this time.
