The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Fort Walton Beach man with attempted murder in connection with a machete attack Sunday outside a business on Racetrack Road. Deputies were called to Loranna’s Cantina at 402 Racetrack Road around 3:30 Sunday in connection with an aggravated battery. They say 38-year old Miguel Guzman of 812 Denton Boulevard hit 52-year old Marco Barnica-Pena in the back of the head with a machete, causing a four inch laceration which required six staples to close. The incident was captures on a security video from the parking lot of the business. It also shows Guzman’s girlfriend, 50-year old Norma Zapata, picking up the machete from the ground, hiding it behind her, and then passing it to another woman who puts it in Guzman and Zapata’s trunk of their car. Zapata is charged with principal to attempted second degree murder.
