Business is booming at the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport, and starting April 1st, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office will be taking over its law enforcement services and security.

Okaloosa County Commissioners gave unanimous approval to the transition earlier this month.

The OCSO did the job from 1997 to 2011, but then the county decided to create its own internal Airports Police Division.

Current commissioners opted to transition back to the OCSO, which will also handle law enforcement and security services at the general aviation airports in Destin and Crestview.

The Airports Unit has twenty allocated positions.
