Schill Operation Safe Schools August 2015

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has been emphasizing school zone traffic safety as part of an initiative created by the Florida Sheriff’s Association called “Operation Safe Schools.”

In the fourth week of operation, the OCSO tracked 57 related events in school zones. Deputies issued six school zone speeding citations and 19 school zone speeding warnings.

The program’s goal is to protect students with increased patrols in school zones, at bus stops, and at crossing guards locations – and to increase public awareness about the need for vigilance now that school is back in session. Final numbers for the month-long operation are being tallied.

The OCSO Public Information Office is sharing school zone traffic safety tips via social media outlets Facebook and Twitter.
